The Rotary Club of Bali Lovina (RCBL) Waste Management project took off about 1 year ago. The project runs in cooperation with The Coca Cola Company and the Reef Check organzation.
The first three years are planned for setting up a pilot project in the Lovina area. One village will work hand in hand with the Rotary Club of Bali Lovina to establish a adequate garbage management program. This wiil take care of cleanup projects and creating awareness of the need for cleaning up beaches, rivers and streets by picking up rubbish and recycling it. The way it looks now the first village we will work with will be Kaliasem.
Hopefully other villages in the area will follow the example of Desa Kaliasem once they see how good life can be living in a cleaner and safer environment.
The first year of the pilot project has been very much focused on creating awareness. For this several beach and river clean ups have been organized throughout the year, schools have been involved in environmental programs and teachers have been trained so they can educate their students about the importance of keeping our environment clean.
Over the last months the RCBL started working hand in hand with hotel and restaurant owners in the area with the goal to establish a garbage collecting system.
On Saturday January 9 RCBL’s Garbage management Committee members, project managers from the Reef Check organization got together with business owners from Lovina, the owner of a garbage collecting plant, and representatives from the Environmental Department of the Buleleng Regency”.
Together they worked on a plan to make and keep our area clean.
The first garbage bins were handed out by Naneng form the Reef Check organzation to members of RCBL. |
