Information Afternoon for Midwives

Mother and child care has always been a major focus of Rotary International in the fight against maternal and child mortality.

To support health development in the Lovina communities RCBL has started a community project in cooperation with a group of local midwives that is focused on making nursing children a better, healthier experience for the whole family.

On April 7 TCBL, in cooperation with Mrs. Ginny Phang, a doula from Singapore’, organized a ‘breast feeding’ workshop for midwives, mothers (to be) and nurses. The workshop covered the issue of ‘how to breastfeed a baby’, touching on topics as; How do you know the mother has got enough milk’, how do you know the baby gets enough milk’, how to breastfeed more efficiently, and how do you know a child is hungry or asking for attention/comfort from the mother.

Ghinny's perspective

Ginny Phang has been working as a Doula since 2003 and has supported over 250 births and taught countless antenatal classes. She is also a breastfeeding consultant. In March and April 2010 she travelled all over Asia giving workshops to professional as well as lay people alike. Ginny is a gifted speaker and compassionate trainer. The workshop was visited by 30 people and an absolute success.

The next workshop for midwives and nurses will be organized for June 2010.
