Our club is currently preparing for a project that will provide spectacles to SMP students in North Bali. The project involves going to schools and screening for students whose eye-sight is poor. Then these kids get to see an optician who prescribes and provides the appropriate spectacles.
Two years ago, we ran a similar project that was mainly for SD (primary school) students. Somehow the photos taken then never made it onto the web site - so here they are now.
In 2009, co-operating Rotary Clubs from Bali joined hands to provide 1.000 pairs of spectacles for school children in Bali with the financial help of a District Grant. RC of Bali Lovina joined into the project and was able to do eye screening tests and hand out 83 pairs of glasses to SD and SMP students in the Lovina area. The eye screenings were joined in by hundreds of school children. Rotarians helped the ‘mobile optician who volunteered to travel from school to school in order to be able serve as many as possible. This took a couple of weeks. The mobile optician carries out an eye screening test Rotarian kadek Arsana does the first ‘screening’ President Conchita hands out glasses at SMp 3 Temuks. Rotarian Decky Aldrin carries out a test with small kindergarten students Happy to have a better view already!
