In Rotary we recognize March as literacy Month. This is when we focus on the importance of literacy and education in our humanitarian service.
In our club’s locality most children follow a basic education and will learn how to read and to write. “Being literate does not just mean the ability to read a book or a news paper. Being literate means being able to comprehend the instructions on a medicine bottle, a set of directions, or a job posting”. Literacy means being part of the larger society. It means inclusion, and it means empowerment”. (Excerpt from G.E. Estess Sr., Foundation trustee chair, March 2010 message on literacy.)

For March 2010 the literacy and education committee of the Rotary Club of Bali Lovina put a focus on literacy by:
- Paying a visit to the “Bali Sejatehra” Foundation in West Bali. Their library has been helped with some proceeds from our club's Christmas fundraiser.
- Kicking off a book collecting project for the ‘Coba Baca’ library in Lovina. The Pondok Baca children’s library in Lovina received another donation from the ‘Pondok Baca Rotary Indonesia Foundation’. Our club helped the Pondok Baca library in February of this year in setting up an educational project called “Around the World in 60 days” that will run until June of this year. The project is focused on widening the children’s understanding and perspective of the world around us and works with different learning methods to develop learning skills, and comprehension. Throughout the Month of March many activities were carried out in the library. Some photos are shown below.
