Treasurer Archie speaking on Oct 21, 09Rotary has two international components:

  • Rotary International governs all the clubs, collects money, and sets objectives
  • The Rotary Foundation manages a contributed fund, and manages the programs that depend on the fund.

This was explained by Archie, our Treasurer, who was guest speaker for October 21. This talk aimed to prepare us for November which is Rotary Foundation Month.

It is suggested that every Rotarian contrinute US$100 per year and to encourage this members who donate US$100 to the Annual Programs fund are recognized as Sustaining Members. Other forms of recognition (such as Paul Harris Fellow) are described on a page at http://www.rotary.org/en/contribute/donorrecognition/individualrecognition/Pages/ridefault.aspx

Some of the money contributed comes back to our district and is able to fund District Grants. Archie estimated that District 3400 has about $10,000 to distribute and that typical grants were around $500.

Rotary is developing a new funding model - this is what Patrick told us about a couple of weeks back. There are 2 levels in this model - the District Grants mentioned above address the needs for smaller grants. The other level is Global Grants which can provide larger amounts, should address certain priority areas, and should be "sustainable".
