ArchieOur guest speaker to day was Archie who is a founding member of our club, and has always been our club’s spokesman for the Rotary Foundation. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

Funds from the Foundation can help us to fund projects, and there are two types of grants:

Global Grants support large international activities with sustainable high-impact outcomes in one or more of the six areas of focus, and have a long-term impact.  Global  Grants are for $30,000 or more and may operate over several  years. Two clubs must partner to apply for a Global Grant – one club should be in the country where the funds will be spent.

District Grants offer clubs and districts flexibility in carrying out activities that support the Foundation's mission. Districts are encouraged to distribute these grant funds for relatively short-term activities, either local or international.

Archie then looked at the process to apply for a District Grant from our District 3400.  He considered as an example an application for funds for a further project of distributing eye-glasses to students with poor vision in North Bali

There was some disucssion of work  in progress by Conchita and others to prepare applications for funding.  There was also disucssion of ProjectLINK which is a searchable database that lists Rotary club and district community service projects in need of funding, volunteers, donated goods, and/or partners for a Rotary FoundationMatching Grant, and completed projects that can be used as examples of best practices.

Check the ProjectLINK database.
