Future for children was founded in Switzerland in November 2004 with the purpose of financing projects to support sustainable development in destitute regions in Bali, with the main focus on Muntigunung.
In Bali,Munitigung cooperates with Yayasan Dian Desa, the most well reputated development organization in Indonesia as the local university.
The projects are worked out with the participation of the local population. Cultural, ecological and economic implications are taken well into consideration before starting the project.
Thanks to the support of caring people in Bali as well as in Switzerland, we have already come along way. We see the self-esteem of women grow as they have jobs that help them support their families.
We see children learn how to read and to write. We see more families staying in their villages rather then to go begging and with time, we will see their poor health condition improve as a result to overall better and safer living conditions and targeted activities.
The main focus of our work is to secure sustainable livelihood development for over 5,500 people in 35 villages in the poor and extremely dry region of Munitigunung, northeast Bali.
The task.
Securing water supply.
The aim is to secure 25 liters of clean water per person per day, throughout the year. Water is life and the true foundation for social development.
Beyond clean water. After securing and maintaining a clean water supply, our livelihood programs endeavor to create employment opportunities and economic prospects for the villagers. We train the population and provide a way for them to become employed and remunerated.
Livelihood- a glance at what they have done so far.
We create sustainable income and employment by:
- Training people in cashew nut processing
- Planting Rosella-hibiscus bushes which are being processed to tea, sweets, syrup and jam.
- Processing high quality palm sugar powder
- Training woman guides for mountain trekking guides
- Establishing small woman’s craft projects
- Establishing drip-trickle irrigation systems for vegetable and herb products
