Today's speaker was our own web-master, Ron Baxter, and the topic was how Facebook pages can be used by non-profit organisations like Rotary Clubs.
Indonesia has 35 million Facebook users, and this number is growing rapidly. This places it as the country with the second biggest number of Facebook users (after the US).
Two years ago, 150,000 Facebook users in Indonesia supported a young mother in West Jakarta who had been ordered to pay a large amount of money to a hospital. Further information on this campaign can be found at

Non-profit organisations like Rotary Clubs can create Facebook pages as a way of connecting to supporters. Already tens of thousands of Rotary Clubs are doing this, and we look at a number of these Facebook pages to gain ideas of how it works.
From the pages we reviewed we found that Facebook pages deal with the “here and now” and can create excitement and feedback. Conventional web-sites can maintain a complete history and provide members=only areas. The advantage of Facebook is that not only do the posts reach to the “friends” who “like” our page, but sometimes the posts will be seen by “friends of friends”.
