Conchita Introduced Rob Beemster who had contacted her a couple of months ago. He was planning to be in Bali for a few months and was interested to explore how his club in Holland, and our club, could possibly work together.
Rob thanked Conchita and expanded on the introduction by mentioning his family, his work at ING and then his Rotary Club at Enkhuizen in The Netherlands.
The club has a web page at http://www.rotary.nl/enkhuizen/ . They have 60 members, only 9 are women so that needs to be balanced. The oldest member is 96 (very wise) and the average age is 53, which is OK. They have evening meetings in a restaurant called The Pepper House (Peperhuis) which is in the building of the Zeiderzee Museum. Rob had planned to show us some slides – but there had been a problem getting hold of the images – so maybe later.
At their meetings a club member gives a presentation – so each member gets to present nearly once a year. A member’s maiden speech is usually a “life story”. Other presentations may realate to their business interests or to current projects. Older members may give a “life story” again.
They have a Contact Club in Germany ( a few hours drive), and are looking for another club that where they can build this type of relationship.
Rob has been planning his 3 month stay in Bali for some time, and is looking for opportunities to set up service plans. He wonders whether they could work with our club, and looks forward to further discussions in the coming weeks.
Rob then made a presentation to President Lia – a fantastic box of chocolates which went round the table twice and still there were a few left. |
