Past District Governor Ritje Rihatinah is a member of the Rotary Club of Bali Sanur which she joined in 1989. In 2004/2005 she was District Governor RI District 3400. Now she has a number of roles including the District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair - and it was in this capacity that she was talking to us.
She travelled to Lovina with 3 other Rotarians from clubs in the south, and we moved our meeting from the usual time on the Wednesday to Saturday to fit in with their plans. They had driven up in the morning and enjoyed a "strawberry stop" for strawberry pancakes and drinks.
Technology was not with us for the day. Our projector was reluctant to work with any computer and in the process of trying, Ritje's computer seemed to jam up in a way that re-starts would not fix. So, in the end, she had to do without the detailed slides she had prepared, and ad-lib.
Our district, 3400, is part of the Future Vision pilot which is running from 10/11 through till 12/13, and our members already have some knowledge of this, so Ritje was able to get to the nitty-gritty details fairly quickly. District Grants are now managed locally in the District, but as the funds available to us are connected with our donations 3 years ago (when the club ws just starting) there is only $75 available which is not very exciting. But there are several proposals for Bali Clubs to pool resources for bigger projects - the ones mentioned were a clean-water project, spectacles for school students, and a mobile library project.
But perhaps the more interesting, but more challenging part would be the Global Grants (which are $30,000 or more). Here our club would need to partner with other clubs that are in Future Vision districts - but we could get help in locating these.
