Ron Baxter looking at the objectivesRon Baxter has been a member of the Rotary Club of Bali Lovina for the past 9 months and is webmaster for the Club's web-site.  He has been working with computers and Information Technology since the 1960's and has seen e-mail evolve from a tool used by the research community  to the current widely used communication system.

In this talk he looked at the potential advantages of keeping more than one mailbox, and the techniques that can help.

Now that mailboxes from Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo are free and virtually unlimited in capacity, it is easy to obtain multiple mailboxes.  The benefits can include:

  • providing a backup of messages in case of some disaster striking the main mailbox
  • allowing one to separate mail relating to your different roles - for example keeping mail connected with your Rotary activities separate from personal email.

P1010032The techniques needed to setup multiple mailboxes include:

  • forwarding of messages from one mailbox to another
  • setting the "Reply To" field so that replies to your messages may be directed to a specific mailbox that may be different from the one you use to send the message
  • setting the From address - with Gmail, when you send a message, you can select from two or more addresses for the From field.  So as you create a message you can decide  if you want it to appear to come from your personal email address, or your Rotary email address.
