Michael and Teaches with StudentsCharlotte Woerner, a member of the Ubud Club, has been working with  Mr Nyoman Bagiarta, founder of Yayasan Naga Loka on a project to establish a Certificate Course for electricians at SMK N3 in Singaraja.  She arranged for our club to visit the school and see for ourselves the progress so far.

We arrived around 10:20am, and were warmly welcomed by teachers and shown into the meeting room where drinks and cakes were awaiting.  They then showed a well made video presentation that describes the courses at the school.  There are 1600 students altogether, and about 160 doing the Electrical Training.

A Teacher Addresses UsAbout 90% of these students are able to fund their own school fees which are about Rp2,500,000 per year.  The remaining 10% need assistance, and the school is very keen to get this arranged so that all these students will have the opportunity to qualify. The school gets funding from the national givernment and from the Buleleng government which provides for teachers and buildings.  But the Electrical Course needs laboratory equipment, outdoor work spaces with electrical poles, and building work spaces where students can install wiring.  This is where Yayasan Naga Loka has been able to help with funding (largely from Switzerland).  We were shown around the facilities and saw classes at work. After, we went with techers to Ranggon Sunset Restaurant - one of the 4 restaurants on poles over the water at Buleleng Harbour in Singaraja.
